THE AUTHOR OF TIME AND SEASON

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV

He has made everything beautiful in its time.

Ecclesiastes 3:11a NIV

Understandably, waiting can be frustrating sometimes. Some are waiting because they already know what to expect; some wait, but they just don’t know how long they will wait. There are a lot of stories in the Bible where waiting is a matter, but there is one of those stories that I know where waiting is too much to bear for her. She couldn’t wait any longer for God to fulfill His promise. Her name is Sarah. A summary of her story is that she thought the Lord had kept her from having children because of her old age (Genesis 16:2). She took things into her own hands. Sarah based her waiting period on her age. I understand why most of us lose hope in waiting, and sometimes we wait for a very long time for something we don’t know what we are waiting for anymore. It seems that time wants to fade all the longings of your heart. It reminds you daily, leaving you to question whether it is from God or the enemy. There are moments when you can’t bear it anymore, and you would ask the Lord to take the desire away if it is not from Him. Some days, God would answer according to His willingness and give you a sign you have been asking for. There are also some days you thought God already gave you the answer of “no,” it may hurt a little bit, but eventually, you’ll get peace. In a matter of time, it will contradict the steadfastness of your heart, and this heart of yours that never learns will start to long again, and it will go back reminiscing the past that God has already cleared long ago. Then, after, you will just see yourself standing in the scent of nostalgia.

But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year.”

Genesis 17:21 NIV

The Holy Spirit will work on your behalf during your waiting season. Your status, length of time, and advanced thinking are not the requirements to meet God’s plan for you. There is a time for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1a). God has already arranged the sequence of events in the future to accomplish the plans He has for you. When God said there is a season for every activity under the heavens, we don’t need to put the matter in our own hands. The Lord has set a period of time in our waiting because we need to go through the process of learning, realization, acceptance, healing, self-control, and deep-rooted reliance on God. When we let God do His work in our waiting, not only will we not fail, but we will be hopeful and dependent on His promise that He has made everything beautiful in its time (Ecclesiastes 3:11a NIV). Leave your waiting season to the Creator of your story.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

Hebrews 10:23 ESV

I know God is not the author of confusion but of a sound mind, order, and peace. Know that if it confuses us, this is not from the Lord. He will not leave you wondering and empty-handed in the wilderness. He will teach you, provide for you, He will give you protection, and season you with salt during your waiting period.

We trust in God’s direction and timing.
