Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control. -Proverbs 25:28 NIV

If there’s one thing this world lacks aside from love and patience, it is Self-control. Often, we are bound to fall into temptation because we lack discipline. We are easily tempted by the things we are trying to let go of because our guard may not be down, but it is not secure. 

We need a tighter belt to keep our control steady and firm.

Our heart is like a flower vase. Flowers characterize our hearts. It is precious, colorful, and fragile, and the hard shell covers it describes as the vase. If we are unaware of our surroundings and a hard blow hits it, this vase will break into pieces without warning. Our guard to protect our heart is not firm.

Without self-control, we are tearing down the barriers of the Holy Spirit’s defense He put in place for us.

Because these walls were torn down, we are creating a portal for the enemy to ruin the safe place in our souls. Our out-of-control will destroy our hearts’ colors, beauty, and morality.

We will never know the Holy Spirit’s protection for us if we do not seek Him, His purpose, and why He demonstrates the importance of self-control to us.

If we don’t seek the Holy Spirit of God to help us fight the lies of the enemy, we will not be able to conquer the sin with sufficient might. We will not understand why we must resist the sin that triggers the temptation.

Fools gives full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end. -Proverbs 29:11 NIV

Self-control attracts wisdom and rooted understanding. The one who pursues God receives heavenly wisdom and brings peace.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. -James 3:17 NIV

When we practice self-control, we discipline ourselves by pursuing God in obedience. We are submissive to Jesus, ensuing to receive wisdom and good fruit from heaven.

WHY DO WE NEED THE FRUIT OF SELF-CONTROL?

1. We gain wisdom and broad understanding.

2. It gives us defense from the enemy’s course of action.

3. It teaches us to discipline ourselves.

4. To build a rooted character from the fruit of the Spirit.

5. Pursuit of running a good race for Jesus.

The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. -Romans 8:6 NIV

Lack of self-discipline is like the unending death of the same old sin while continuing to live and repeating the actions that torment us.

If we let Jesus govern our minds and hearts, sin that torments us daily will be put in the grave forever. God will accomplish it and give us a new self, clothed with the fruit of the Spirit.

Don’t return to the tomb of sin that Jesus buried long ago. He will swallow up death because He is victorious! (Isaiah 25:8a). 

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. -Galatians 5:16 NIV

I have learned through my experience, deep studying, and understanding that in the moment of temptation, anger, or ungodly circumstances, I will ask myself, will my response and reaction towards this matter make me an alliance with God or the enemy?

Walking with the Spirit of God in truth and choosing to fix our minds on Jesus will make you look at your past sins dead. Stop coming back to dig the grave of your sin and put it back to life again. This ungodly desire should not gratify your flesh anymore.

As the flesh will not defeat the Spirit, so as the darkness will not overcome the light.
